Collection: Good Company

Castle Gallery is pleased to present Good Company, the gallery's inaugural solo exhibition of works by Laura McCarty. McCarty is a Florida-based painter whose practice explores nostalgic spaces, memory, and the role collected objects play in daily communal moments. Each work in this collection depicts a space void of figures, yet teeming with evidence of human connection and legacy. The tables display heirloom objects, some from the artist herself, set within a strikingly contemporary palette with traces of reds, oranges, and yellows. Wide sprays of florals form kaleidoscopes of pattern, as if papering the walls of a space where the company was remembered most. Food, utensils, and plates are scattered across the plane of the table, eschewing perfection and rigidity in favor of lingering conversation.

McCarty's flattened perspective stands as a foil to the realism of Old Master tablescape compositions, foregrounding instead rich palettes and textures that reflect sensorial memory. Simultaneously, the tables tilt forward to minimize the separation of space between the viewer and the scene. In a genre that traditionally elevated the idealized and inaccessible, McCarty's still lifes are a celebration of small, imperfect shared moments and a warm invitation to witness them.
